Amanda Lotz emphasizes in her book ‘Introduction: Netflix and the Reinvention of Television’, That there are several aspects of what she defines as the post-network condition, lots of them are different to what she originally imagined: for her they mainly fall under either Interoperability, or Efficiency.
Interoperability: Digital technologies “provided the opportunity to converge televisions, computers and other home technologies” (2014, 58)
It could be argued that no other streaming service does Interoperability quite like Netflix. For those who want to watch movies and shows from the comfort of their own home, Netflix has become a household name in the film industry. The company has become a leader in the movie streaming market, with many people signing up to watch movies at their leisure. In addition to the United Kingdom, content on Netflix can be seen in more than forty countries around the world, making it a global brand. It is an on-demand service that provides viewers with a variety of content based on their preferences. To date, it has more than 10 million subscribers and has provided more than 10,000 DVD titles to its customers.
Despite being an online streaming company, Netflix allows users to watch content even when they are not connected to the internet. Members can download their favourite movies and watch them with family or friends at the location of their choice. Fortunately, downloading content is easy and can be done on their website or through their mobile app. To download, all you have to do is click on the “Available for Download” section and it will be available on your device in a few minutes, making it even more ‘post – network’.
The streaming network has further expanded into film and tv production, producing their own content to distribute and successfully dominating the streaming market with over 25 Emmy award winning productions such as Unorthodox, Making a Murder and orange is the new black.
