This famous aesthetic/style was minimalistic and often belonged to Adele, even though MTV was all about visuals and creativity Adele managed to pull a British belter and hit MTV’s top song for 2011 (Montgomery, 2011). She created a pop song that used visuals to metaphorically portray her mind and her losing her mind, she represents anger through rapid movements and different scenes changing in a montage edit. Adele is known for a very clean and phenomenal voice, she tries to make sure the music videos allow people to still focus on her music, the mise-en-scene is very minimal and falls quiet in the background. In this MTV article, the writer claims she creates old-school effects of music that required more listening. Compared the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s Thrift Shop, almost every lyric has a visual representing it with a literal meaning, which keeps your mind watching along and ‘vibing’ along. The visuals here are much more popping out, Macklemore says “but shit it was 99 cents” the camera panning to a 99 cents sign in a thrift shop, his video and lyrics are in sync whilst feeling goofier and this era of pop was more about being less serious and more about the fun and the party. I personally remember when Adele slowly backed off and took a big break from music, this is what I see as the third era of MTV which was anti-MTV. We started seeing a teenage rebellion in the era, and the hip hop genre grew much more. n On YouTube MTV wasn’t at the top league, World star hip hop and lyrical lemonade had outdone themselves, we started seeing younger artists such as Lil Tecca, Lil Mosey, and polo gt the question is are these as good as MTV because artists on MTV seem to have a more of a longevity than this counterparts.
