Netflix’s Diversity vs Monetisation

A new contemporary definition in the industry was forged BASED on this series’ construction. Breaking bad is one of the biggest shows on Netflix and helped its rise, this is because of a new strategy of binge-providing series, whole seasons were provided, and people binged this series, I had binged this series from beginning to end during the COVID lockdown. Netflix 2010 took this series into their catalogue and from season 4 they had all the episodes available for binging which got 1.9 million viewers per episode (Norrie, 2022). Netflix kept this show viable for being the most popular streaming service at the time, but now in 2025 it will disappear, this could be Netflix losing its confidence in making more profits. A specific trend came into the place of Netflix’s antihero genres, but the characters questioned Netflix. But most believe Netflix has improved its diversity, but some argue that the politics are all a diversion for monetization. Walt is the main character who decides to create meth using his skills to feel powerful but also provide money for his family as he has a few years to live, a series that contrasts conflict and justice. On the other hand, Dear White People is a Netflix original with a lack of interest and viewership. This can be because characters who are bad for causing damage to the marginalized are not showing the will to change themselves. They make everything seem very literal and specific in the series, things like subtle racism, and industrialized, systemized racism is not looked upon. In season 4 they use a musical to break the oppressive systems from the outside, this shows how dragging out a series on big matters is still how Netflix operates so they can monetize this.
