In the new cultural concept of post cinematic, there is a great change has taken place in the technical form of film shooting. It no longer adopts simple narrative editing techniques, but more special effects or changes in shooting techniques. This week’s screening film is “Southland Tales”, a science fiction film from the United States, which intertwines many different storylines with multiple characters and plots, including government officials, terrorists and movie stars.
The film is set in the United States where is near-futuristic, where society is in chaos after the destruction of a nuclear war, and the government tries to use a new technology to stabilize the situation. This multi-layered narrative structure combined with science fiction elements is often reflected in unique shooting techniques. Here’s my summary of what makes “Southland Tales” special in its filming approach:
1. Sci-fi elements: The film uses some unrealistic elements in its filming, including nuclear war and new energy technologies. This exaggerated and surreal approach can finally present a world full of futuristic feelings. It also fits in with Shavrio’s new post-film concept, as the film takes an unconventional form of representation both from a technical point of view and in terms of story structure.
2. Visual style: The director of this film is known for his unique visual style. In this film, absurd, exaggerated and science fiction elements are combined to greatly enhance the visual effect of the audience, and its unique photography style also adds highlights to the storyline.
3. Character relationships: The character relationships in this film are relatively complex, and when different forces are entangled in different backgrounds of politics and business, an intricate and imaginative film is formed.
While “Southland Tales” may not be a typical post-movie, it transcends traditional cinematic paradigms in terms of cinematic form and theme. Because post-film is a relatively new concept, the visual art form is different from the traditional film experience. The film’s complex narrative structure and use of virtual reality and digitalization show its connection to the new post-film concept, which often utilizes advanced digital technology and virtual reality elements to create an immersive movie-going experience. The sci-fi elements and the depiction of the virtual world in this film are closely related to the post-film digital trend.
