New media digital platforms have changed viewership in every way imaginable to the binge culture to the mass libraries they provide. These platforms have not only provided audiences with films and series from previous years but contemporary products including their very own productions. Netflix and Amazon have produced their own series and films known as Originals, these films and series have caused a big problem for the current world of cinema production as companies are struggling to compete with the budgets that are suddenly available to these digital media platforms.
Netflix has created new series and even revamped series that were originally cancelled due to production issues. Netflix revisited Top Boy, a production originally created by Channel 4 (2011-2013) and have since created 3 more seasons since the revamp in 2019. This series like most other Netflix series are released in bulk, where we see audiences indulge in 2-6 episodes for that short burst of gratification and then to simply move onto the next series available to them.

With society constantly moving forward and social media being so influential, viewers need content they can resonate with, feel like they are being represented in the correct manner. Representation in the media has always caused a clash in opinion whether that is race, class, sexuality or gender. This means that these new platforms must explore all types of representation in their production to ensure positive influence. Netflix released a coming of age series called Sex Education back in 2019, this series fixates on the struggles of puberty, sexual preference, gender, race and disability. The series creates a positive representation for young adults and teenagers who are struggling with their identity. Each episode explores a new problem that young people face with have a diverse mix of characters. Not only does this series fixate on the youth but also addresses the older audience, with themes of adulthood, but the series also highlights the idea of understanding sexuality or gender representation for a new understanding.
