“Beyond the Box set: how streaming impact Daily life compared to classic TV”

In the introduction, Netflix and the Reinvention of television (pp.1-31), Jenner discusses how Netflix disrupts traditional; television structures through its on-demand, subscription-based model. Jenner notes that binge-watching shifts viewing habits, allowing for a more immersive experience, but she also raises concerns about its impact on narrative structure and audience interaction with content. Binge-watching takes people’s attention away from the outside world; being at work all you will think about is you continuing the series and can’t wait for the next one episode to drop soon, however with classic Tv with it having traditional releases it is also the same, your mind is cultivated around the “can’t wait for this show or series to finally drop”. people may argue that traditional weekly releases encourage ongoing conversation and anticipation while binge-watching can lead to a more isolated, less reflective viewing experience.

In this case it is more deeper than that over the years television has changed and now we have the luxury to binge-watch, or is it a luxury?

Binge-watching can cause mental health effects such as increased stress and anxiety this can lead to sleep deprivation, fatigue and even increased anxiety as views often watch longer than intended to finish a series. As i previously explained this can caused isolation where people are at home spending hours watching non-stop whereas traditional TV that’s often watched with family or friends. Classic Tv is structured so this encourages people to have a routine and plan things within their day to day life however binge-watching requires hours of focused and unlike to work around peoples schedule, they will either watch for hours in the morning or watch for hours in the night which causes less sleep for them.

Amanda D. Lotz’s Television outside the box: the television revolution of television dives into how advancements in TV technology especially streaming and on-demand series have reshaped the ways people consume content and by extension their daily lives. Television time constraints also supported the advertiser reliant business model dominated the network era. The current development that seem revolutionary be they internet protocol technology and related affordances strategies (Lotz. A, Portals; a treatise on internet-distributed television). Lotz discusses how traditional TV often acted as a communal experience creating collective cultural moments that viewers could discuss in real time. weekly episodes built anticipation and provided a common ground for social conversation making TV medium that contributed to social cohesion (Lotz .A.D. (2014) television outside the box: the technological revolution of television)

To Conclude, Binge-watching and classic and TV have distinct i pacts on our lives inflected by how each format structures content consumption. traditional TV fostered shared experience building social cohesion and viewers engaged collectively in discussion and looked forward to weekly episodes. while streaming offers flexibility and personalisation it can also lead to unregulated consumption patterns impacting productivity social interaction and mental well-being.
