Visibility, voice and vulnerability: Trans Queer representation in the digital Age.

Trans and Queer people face some potentials and challenges within the new digital platforms.

The potentials are increased visibility, as they can reach out to audiences worldwide without traditional media gatekeeping or giving them any boundaries. Diverse stories shared by people from within the community can foster understanding and reduce stigma. this gives a step through the doors for young people who are having doubts about themselves, seeing this will give them hope and a voice to speak out.

In this TikTok we have a Trans woman called Veondre, her platform is about her being trans and letting the audiences know that Trans people will not back down because of other peoples silly comments. she supports other trans people and encourage them to stand their ground. She started off showing her Transition process and that there brought the community closer along with other Trans people doing the same. Trans and queer creators have more freedom on social media platforms so they can have control over their content and these platforms. this allows for more transparent conversations and authentic representation that are not filtered by cisgender or heterosexual lens. This also links to community budling by having this opportunity and freedom to have full control over what they say and post.

Online harassment and hate speech is a ongoing thing towards Trans and Queer people they are particularly vulnerable to targeted harassment and trolling on digital platforms. this has affected man Trans and queer people which resulted in discourage creators and impact on their mental health.

Education purposes allows Trans and queer people to educate everyone who fully doesn’t know much about the history of the LGBTQ community, offering information on trans and queer issues and their experience the ins and outs.

This creator is called miki ratsula, they had their top surgery done and their content is about what top surgery is like their journey and they cope with everything that comes with it. This is an example of trans person using their platforms to spread positivity and not allowing hate speech get them however you see the comment section is blocked because there are is a lot of people who feel it is right to speak negativity against others this is an ongoing struggle and challenge to trans and queer people.

Overall, new digital platforms offer great opportunities and possibilities for trans and queer representation but also present challenges that needs attention to create safe and supportive space.
