‘All Red’ or all random – The juxtaposition of audio/visual

Playboi Cartis music video for All Red is one of the more unique music videos you will watch, there is not an exact plot, nor do you understand the correlation between the two mediums.

The audio to the music video is very high energy, and dominated mostly by Cartis very distinct style with his unique adlibs and very deep bass, as well as a very loose hypnotic like freestyle flow in the song. The song in itself gives off a sense of aura you may not get from the average artist, with its mixture of chaos, chillness and very dark lyrics.

The music video itself was directed by one of Playboi Cartis main film makers who goes by the name “Nick Shumaker”. In the video he chose to go a chiller route for the visuals. Steven Shaviro believes that sound and audio benefit each other and help creat an immersive non linear experience. In this case there is a benefit to the song in itself as the visuals add  another layer to the song that you would have never thought.

Because the Music video has no correlation to the tone of the song they do not affect each other, but they cancel eachother out. The narrative of the video is not being hurt nor benefited from this. As the video is almost like a story of what Playboi Carti does on a daily basis. As there is a snippet of him in the club throwing money while the song is in the back of him demonically saying “Upside down cross tat on my neck, shut em up”. You get a sense of the theme of the lyrics and also the story and narrative of the video. It makes it easier for you to focus on one or the other.
