Netflix is The New Cinema BUT Better ?

With the world consensually becoming more globalized and heavily industrialized. It is no surprise that cinema was once most loved activity do in social gatherings have slowly drifted away. From just ticket sales down from $6 billion om 2023 to now $4.8 billion just shows how much of a decline cinema has had and may continue to further down in the future. But how can this be? With the rapid changes and introduction to streaming sites such as Amazon and Netflix, it is safe to say that streaming sites have become the new hot sensation with watching new tv series and movies due to many possible reasons as stated by Lotz such as technological convenience and access to mobile/portable television.

When it comes to technological conveniences, majority of today’s society will most definitely own some sort of technology whether it is laptops, TV’s, tablets and smartphones, they can all gain access to the web with a few clicks and searches (Lotz, 2014). By having these many options, many people would more likely consume some form of entertainment whether it is from film/Tv series or just content itself as it’s overall more convenient. This comes back to Netflix, it has been become more mainstream these days to consume their shows and trending/exclusive tv series such as Arcane and Wednesday which are very engaging and “binge” worthy shows.

With that aside, what potentially make Netflix the “better” version of cinema is the control that Netflix or any other streaming service that provides which is giving the viewer control. What this means is self-explanatory, the viewer is given the power to control how many episodes they want to watch, when they want to watch and how they want to watch it. Unlike the cinema where you have to try sit through the whole movie in one sitting, Stream sites provides many more opportunities for the viewer in terms of freedom as well as series releasing episodes in bulk to engage and hook the viewer usually leaving a cliff hanger/suspense near the end episodes.
